Rooftop Rhythms

   Rooftop Rhythms depicts the view of the rooftop at 12 W. 68 St., where I stayed in the winters of 2005 and 2006, and is where I actually carved this block. The building is at the back of a garden between W. 68 and W. 67 Sts., behind the Hotel des Artistes off of Central Park West. The building's owner from 1965 to 2009, Thomas H. Haines, is the co-author, with Mindy Lewis (I introduced them to each other) of his autobiography "A Curious Life: From Rebel Orphan to Innovative Scientist, just released by Post Hill Press in August, 2019. The building's history (along with 14 W. 68 St.) is fascinatingly described in the book. My linocut Backyards in Winter depicts a different view from the same W. 68 St. property. 

   This type of view, along with those on rooftops, are among my favorites - revealing the hidden worlds of the city you can't see from the street.
